Does Your Body Send You Stress Signals?
Recently, I vowed to do a Facebook Live for 36 days from my Facebook page in an effort to stay accountable in finishing this summer strong. Last week was a rockstar week – I got a lot of stuff done, kept up with my live videos, made tangible progress.
This past Tuesday, I had my second visit to the emergency room this year. (If you’ve been following me for a while, my first visit this year was in February, as I was suffering from abdominal pain, resulting in a kidney infection). This time, I went in for abdominal pain AGAIN, but this time, uncovering what appears to be a quite prominent cyst. And the worst part about it is that I have to somewhat ride out the pain (managing with pain medication) as I wait for some resolution.
I can’t quite figure out if there is some underlying stuff happening here, but again, it’s a constant reminder that I need to prioritize my health and not let the “busy” sidetrack it. I’m trying my best to rest easy in the periods I might otherwise be super productive and focused, and acknowledging that this is the important thing right now. I am still able to do most of my work, but I can’t push myself to be the “overachiever” I normally am.
When I was diagnosed with alopecia aerata in 2015, that was the first time I realized that I wasn’t invincible. Maybe that sounds crazy, but I think many people like me who have a busy life try to put a “plug” into problems we encounter and just “suck it up,” but not realizing how it is truly impacting us. I know I say this a lot, but I can’t stress enough that we don’t HAVE to to live this way. And I’m going to spend the rest of my life trying to prove that to you, to encourage you to make a change and have more fun!
Have you experienced stress that eventually manifest negatively in your health? I would love to hear your story in the comments below if you are willing to share.
