How to make a commitment you can keep

Making a commitment, whether large or small, isn’t always easy. Here are some things to consider before saying “yes” to something you don’t want to bail on later:

1) Understand WHY you’re making the commitment:
Don’t just say yes because it sounds cool. Why do you want to make the commitment? What opportunities might be presented when you fulfill it? What will you be missing if you don’t pursue it?

2) Make sure the commitment is SMART:
When you set a make a commitment to something that is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound, you are way more likely to accomplish it.

3) Be focused, but flexible:
Know that there are always multiple ways to achieve the result you seek. You may have guidelines, but don’t need to follow one specific recipe to succeed. Walk the path, tweak as needed for what works for you, and don’t give up – keep your eye on that prize.
